RIVITA – Hunt You Down (Single)

Rivita3

“Hunt you Down” is the new single from sensational New York artist Rivita. The Intro sounds enchanting with wood like instruments chiming pleasant melodies. The chorus comes in with some subtle dynamics; it’s damn catchy and hypnotic! a real master class in how to use repetition.

The theme has a nice positive message of hope. Hope is hunted and sought; All of us  do this through our lives I’m sure! Although the song is about meeting the one I think it can be put into so many different stages of life. The lead also hits home in the Chorus going higher and more uptempo.

The video really seems to compliment the music! It is a dance video where they use a contemporary form of dance to bring out the beat. The girls look like their having a ball and I’m sure they are.

Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did! The interview is below.

Wow this is a great project reminds me of a Sia music video. How did this collaboration come about?

Thank you so much Heath! Last year, I finished producing my E.P. “Tribal Love” and I was looking to collaborate with a ballet dancer on the music video. I had been asking around looking for the perfect person to collaborate with but after weeks of searching, I didn’t have any luck until one day I received an e-mail from Maddy Masello’s mom who responded to my advert on Craig’s list and Maddy and I ended up collaborating on the “Tribal Love” music video and one of my live shows. Maddy is a part of a dance group at Studio B Dance Co. in Liverpool, New York, where she dances with her friends. We soon started talking about a concept for the “Hunt U Down” music video and thought it would be super cool to get Maddy’s friends involved as well – Arabella and Madison who are exceptional dancers. I think the three of them together really brought the song to life. I truly believe that inter-artistic collaborations really enhance the story of a song. We had a really fun day filming and luckily, Todd Michalek who is an amazing cinematographer was able to join us and be the director of photography on this video.

Interesting theme to this single. It sounds like your hunting the elusive. Tell us a bit about “Hunt you Down”?

The song “Hunt U Down” is a part of my 5 track E.P. “Tribal Love”. The concept behind my entire E.P. was somewhat a commentary on the millennial dating life and how I felt about it. It goes from the casual yet ironic feel of the song “While The Love is Gone” into “Tribal Love” which is about not settling for less and finding the kind of love that doesn’t move on from one person to the next into “Hunt U Down” which I think turned out to be a great way to tie up the E.P. not only story wise but also sonically. I hardly ever write uptempo songs and my family always tells me that I should write fun songs that make people move as well! I really took their advice on this one, I also spoke to another songwriter – Sylvie Songs, about the songs that I had written for the E.P. and she gave me some excellent guidance. I think all in all, I listened to my heart and to the people around me and “Hunt U Down” came into existence. We give up a lot when we settle for something that does not feel right at the core, and I, truly wanted to capture the essence of my beliefs with these songs.

I’m guessing your still doing everything yourself (Producing, Singing, Instruments ect) have you found any helpers in big New York city?

It is true, I do a lot of heavy lifting for the music, I write, perform, engineer, produce, mix and then I go onto create the artwork and the videos. I think it has less to do with the world and more to do with my personality, I love learning and researching and working towards bringing my vision to life. I guess, I am kind of an engineer in lots of ways.

This past one year, I really worked towards getting out of my introverted comfort zone and meeting new people to work with! 2018 has been a big year for me, I went all the way to South Africa to audio engineer on a journalistic project where I ended up collaborating with local artists, I realized that a lot of these hugely talented artists didn’t necessarily have a way to record themselves and get a studio quality recording for their music and this gave rise to my project “The Traveling Studio”. The first song from this project, “Love Again” that I co-wrote/produced with rapper/producer Asemahle just came back after being mastered at Air Studios in London and I am really excited to be releasing it in August. I collaborated with artists and producers from all around the globe this year and I can’t wait for the world to hear my new music.

I saw you did your first New York gig. How did that go?

My first performance was held at Nublu in New York City to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the organization Female Pressure, which is an international network of female, transgender and non-binary individuals who practice in the realm of electronic music. It was an excellent event, I had an incredible time performing and I got to meet some amazing artists and people! I felt greatly honored to have shared the same platform as the other electronic artists – Leah King, She’s Excited and Discoheads, Electric Djinn and Dreeemy to name a few!

See your doing some music education how is that all going?

This past year I pursued my second Graduate degree in Audio Arts. While this program greatly revolved around audio engineering, I was able to really explore interesting courses in visual storytelling at the Newhouse School at Syracuse University. I took this year to explore courses that were not necessarily related to music but ultimately enhanced my practice as an artist whether they were in entrepreneurship or in design thinking. I believe the essence of creation is exploration, and the more new concepts I learnt, the better ideas I perceived. I think this year gave me a lot of food for thought. I not only learnt a lot about the subjects that I was studying but I also feel like it was a self-discovery mission!

What’s your plans for the future?

I will be releasing a new song or video each month for the rest of the 2018 until I release my debut album in 2019, I have collaborated with some amazing artists from all around the globe on some of these projects and I am really excited for my new releases. Meanwhile, I am also developing my venture Mix Music Master. Apart from my artistic practice, I will be teaching, working as a composer for Film/TV and a music producer on various projects.

Grow Rich – Senen Lempuyangan EP

Man this guy takes me right back to getting into rock. Nineties rock rules no doubt, but Aussie rock is what this takes me back too, especially Spider-bait. This is Grow Rich headed by Abdur Rahim Latada aka Oyi. Based in Jakarta Indonesia Growing Rich has been recording original rock tracks that rival some of the best I’ve heard.

Oyi has a great ear for songwriting, his lead guitar rattles the mind while his drummer destroys it. In a good way of course. I like the honest lyrics and subtle dynamics. Repetition is something this artist also does well.

Hope you all enjoy the music. Interview below!

“Poo She Whack On” is a cool rock track can you tell us a bit about it?

Poo She Whack On about knowing your partner/friend flaws but still accepting them for whoever they are. In this case a person with BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder).
The production is awesome can you tell us a bit about the process?

I recorded, mixed and mastered in a professional recording studio. It took me almost $600USD to finance the whole production things all by myself.
“Elle Punk” is a good track can you tell us a bit about it?

“Elle Punk” is about falling in love with a charming person who suffers “Borderline Personality Disorder”.
The drumming is exceptional how did you guys get together?

I invite Arya and Qory to fill the drums on my self made indie rock songs. Both drummers came from Death Metal / Grindcore scene in Jakarta Indonesia. Totally different than me.
How does an Indonesian musician get ahead these days?

Well it depends on the band and musicians, every one of them has different methods to support their own creativity’s. Mostly using social media for sure.
You have a bit of lead guitar in your tracks is that something you try hard to get in your music?

Not really. Most lead guitar in my songs are recorded in one take. It’s pretty spontaneous and based on my personal instinct and taste. If I like it I take it. If I don’t I drop it.
What’s your thoughts on music today?

Today’s music is awesome. I discover many awesome obscure music through Bandcamp.

Trudy Newell – Letting You Go

Trudy

From Sydney Australia Singer-songwriter Trudy Newell has been plugging away at her great new track “Letting You Go”.  The track seems an honest one and points to the title meaning. Trudy’s vocals are a real standout and probably the best I’ve heard from her.

The songs playful melodies moments are a nice touch( You can’t have enough melody whether it be in vocal or guitar I say). The music video and production are professional and seem to marry up greatly.

It’s been a great journey to watch coming along with leaps and bounds. Good work Trudy Newell! (Interview below)

Hey Trudy! You were telling me this project happened over three countries can you tell us a bit about it?

I recorded the vocals at Unity Gain Studios with John Prior. My Facebook friend Ray Jenkins (from Bulgaria )did the instruments with Rick Medlock on drums. Also Ray Chapman did the video in England. So it’s an international work which is a new one for me!

“Letting You Go” is a great song can you elaborate on it a little for us?

I wrote Letting Go for a comedy night I performed at  a  few years back. The song went into hibernation after that. When I started to play it again I thought “this could actually be a good song!” So I recorded the vocals (when I recorded “Drift” and “Heart-Shaped Bruise”).

“Letting You Go” is really about letting go of the bad habits in ourselves, because they are the ones that annoy us in others. It started as a joke song, now I think it’s one of my best. Jenks really made it shine!

I see you have a young family what do they think of music in general?

My daughter Fiona hasn’t seen much of me playing music because I’ve been sick since having her. Being up and down with the bipolar doesn’t leave much head-space for playing music either. But we restrung the guitar this week and I’ve had a little play.

You have a podcast now how is that going?

My podcast on Anchor.fm is a real creative outlet for me; people on the platform are really supportive of my musical goals. Since I’ve had my music up through DistroKid on iTunes and Spotify it’s been featured on three other Anchor.fm stations and it gives me a thrill to know that I am being heard.

What’s your opinion on music these days?

As far as music goes; I find it very hard to sustain myself playing and writing. “Hope”  I think you need to have and the belief in your writing. I find it hard to keep on believing through the depression; although I have started to write again, just for fun.

Rivita – “Tribal Love” Single

RIVITA

Rivita from New York has a great new song “Tribal Love”! Genres cut into pop, electro and singer-songwriter. Musically there’s quite a bit to it, the singing is top stuff and accompanies the music. Sound choice is very interesting and I like the effects on the guitar parts.

The theme to the song struck a chord with me. The chorus has a nice subtle dynamic were Rivita chants the title of the song over and over. I’m a believer in prophecy and being lead by a godly force, all that stuff. So it makes plenty of sense to me!

24312675_10155196713528806_7149465614581853281_n
Beautiful song! What is the whole meaning for “Tribal Love”?
I think my entire album has been about the kind of love that I believe in and Tribal Love really stemmed from the idea of pure, loyal love and not settling for less. I think there is a certain strength in the song, talking about not being afraid of being alone and being a fiercely strong person but at the end of the day, I believe in the old school kinda love, the kind which makes people stick together through thick and thin!

The song has a nice positive theme is that something you like in songs?
Most of the time, I write songs from the perspective of being strong and believing in something bigger than oneself. Even though I am not always a positive person, I find that music is a medium of hope and has this strong ability to make people feel, and at the end of the day I try to write songs that would make me wanna wake up and write more.
Anything planned for live performances?
I will be performing live at Funk n Waffles in Syracuse, New York this weekend on the 24th at 6 pm EST and hopefully I will be playing more shows in the US this year.
Is electronic music something you have always done or is it a progression and why the choice in genre?
Electronic music is not something I have always done. I have always been a very tech-centric human being though and I guess it was only a matter of time before I joined the dots and combined my passion for music with that for computers. I have had a band in the past and I have recorded a few songs with full bands. As much as I love those songs, I believe that I truly evolved when I incorporated production and electronic elements into my music. I continue to grow and metamorphosis and maybe in the future my sound will becomes even bigger and better than it is today!
My interpretation of “Tribal Love” is choice by pure instinct… Are you a believer in feelings and fate, all that kind of stuff?
I believe in intuition and feelings for sure, I do think that things happen for reason and there is a path craved out for everyone. I think every little detail in our journey makes a big difference in who we are as people and a lot of my music does originate from little encounters that I have with the world. I guess it is almost like butterfly effect.

NSW Music Tour Venues

NSW

I can never find music touring circuits on the net so I thought I’d make some. Everyone likes being patriotic at times; so I thought why not get known in your own State first? You only need 1000 real fan right?

The smaller towns I’d probably stay away from busking; just because Owners want to get their money’s worth and in tight knit communities it’s hard to go unrecognized. Saying that, things like Tamworth’s Country Music Festival they have Busking competitions and you can busk all day through it.

I’ve added Bathurst and Armidale because their UNI towns; and I’ve heard you can get crowds there. Still I wonder why there are only 18 000 profession musicians in Australia if you do say 4 shows a week and teach I can’t see why the $82k average Australian wage is so unattainable. A musician should be by now a respectable profession.

Any questions or suggestions please leave a comment.

Hailing from Jakarta, Grow Rich with “Cash to Kyodo”!

Grow Rich

Hailing from Jakarta Indonesia comes a new age Indie Rocker outfit called “Grow Rich”!

First impressions of their new single “Cash to Kyodo” are real in your face rock. The drummer is smashing a solid but rhythmic beat. The singer is good and the lyrics are really positive which I like. The experimentation with musical dynamics is awesome. Also the lead guitarist has some chops, simple in parts but really building to some highs.

It’s exciting hearing about the new music scene in Indonesia but getting to hear it and write a blog on it is on a whole other level. Thanks “Grow Rich” and hopefully I’ll see you on TV one day.

What are you up to in your music world?

This may sounds cliche, but I want to spread positivity to the world with a song. It always feels nice to see my song bring happiness and good spirits to those who listen to it. And I believe we all want to see happy people in a happy world. So Grow Rich (My solo musical venture) is how I try and make these ideas happen.

What are some great song-writing idea’s your using currently?

Firstly I gather the ideas, you know by doing some basic observation about being human. I simply ask myself, what makes a human a human? There’s a lot of answers to that question. I think about the ability to having a delusion, lack of confidence, the temptation to be inertia, Insecurity and all the things which hinder us from achieving what we want in our life. I want the listeners to notice that I recognize those self negative thoughts really exist in the lyrics of “Grow Rich’s” first single “Cash to Kyodo”, because it’s so very humane. Before I tell them to take control of their self and don’t give up; to fight for the best things that they wanted in their life. Nothing good will come to us if we let ourself get stuck down doing nothing; paralyzed by negativity.

Do you prefer the singing or the song and why?

I love both. The music, the lyrics it’s all good man. First time I listen to Cash to Kyodo. I knew that I loved it. The upbeat, groovy drum tempo, the sweets riffs and the melody of my guitar. The positive nature of the lyrics. It’s all sounds good to me.

What is the best music venue you have played and why?

In my experience as a musician I know how it feels to play in every type of music venue and it feels good. Big or small venues is all the same to me. I like them all!

What are some of the themes you like to write about?

Everything which is related with being a human being. Absolutely in a positive light.

Why do you like the artists you like?

I have no favourite artist since I listen to a pretty wide range of music. I like good music or music with a good lyric. And the definition of good itself is obviously pretty subjective, it doesn’t have a solid standard, and it depends on many situations and where the listener is. Sure I like punk rock music or some short of indie rock stuff.

Rivita

Goyle

Wow l usually scour the earth trying to find great indie musicians but out of the blue a Hindu Goddess came from heaven and found me. There’s a first for everything folks. Rivita comes from New Delhi and is currently studying music in London.

Her brand new song “While the Love is Gone” is a real winner. l like the mix of musical ability and Poetic phrasing. l get a real sense of positivity and hope. While the love is gone maybe do something practical. Words to live by! Such an old soul in a young body.

The thing that strikes me the most about Rivita is she does everything herself from the song-writing, to the singing, to the producing, to the art work. She even manufactures her own CDs. A real DIY hard working attitude which l really admire.

What are you up to in your musical world?
I have my new single “While The Love is Gone” coming out on the 31st of May, followed by a music video on the 13th of June. I am currently busy working on my debut E.P.
What are some great song-writing ideas you have come across these days?
These days, a lot of songwriters incorporate urban slangs and trending things as lyrics into their songs and I think that’s pretty cool.
What do you prefer the singing or the song and why?
I prefer both, as much as I enjoy writing a song, a lot of my ideas come when I sing it.. that is just who I am as an artist.
What is the best venue you have played and why?
Shepherds bush, Islington.. its a pretty iconic venue, I played with an amazing band and we had the time of our lives.

What are some of the things you like to write about?
I like to write about anything that inspires me.
Why do you like the artists you like?
I like artists because of their unique voice and style, I take a lot of inspiration from someone who is different and walking their own path rather than following everyone else.

Why Music Clubs Will Help Music?

As a kid growing up in a small town there was not much to do. Naturally you gravitate towards Sports Clubs. But looking back where’s the Music Clubs?

I took up music at 14 and the way forward was meeting friends and jamming out at houses. There was no help from a Music Clubs like there was from Sports Clubs where players were picked out by scouts and moved up in the game. Sometimes Coach’s will help you work on something or tell you to work on a new area that will make your performance better. In Music you have no helping hands just other dysfunctional musicians usually that have less of an idea than yourself.

A few years ago I done some research and found that there were just a hand full of Music Clubs in Australia the biggest one being only 200 members, located in South Australia somewhere. This inspired me to continue on the ‘Club’ idea and create my own.

kick can

When l bring up the idea of Music Clubs it always gets the same sort of negative reactions including.

  • But l want to be the rock star.
  • Clubs just rob people with poker machines.
  • Your just doing this so you can be a rock star.
  • Your killing music by cheapening the product.

Let me discredit these comments before moving onto the positives of this idea.

  1. You wanting to be a ‘Rock Star’ is all part of people’s perspective. If you look at these so called ‘Rock Stars you’ll see they never saw it that way anyways. For example Keith Richards in his autobiography said the only way to be a musician after World War II was to be famous. Being famous never appealed to him but it just seemed part of the job. Dave Grohl on the other hand who ‘Rock Starred’ in the 90s is quoted many times saying it was all to do with the ‘media’ and he was just and average guy who took it on the road with a bad ass show.
  2. Most Clubs don’t have poker machines. Yes fair enough my local Leagues Club and Bowling Club’s did have poker machine. But my Soccer Club, Cricket Club, Rugby Club, Gardening Club, Rotary Club and well most Club’s didn’t have those evil pokies.
  3. Why would l want to be a ‘Rock Star’? I have a good paying job that feeds my family already. Music for me is a great hobby and a Club thing for me once a month is fun.
  4. Music Club’s like Sports Club’s will just generate more interest in the Club subject. More people will rock up to gigs. More people will become music fans and grassroots music will flourish. It’s already been done in sports so why not music.

pokie

Onto the positive points. What will more Music Clubs do for communities? Everyone is so quick on the negative but so slow on the positives.

• Kids that like music will have something to do.

  • People will actually turn up to live music events.
  • More people will be able to do music as a profession as it is in sport.
  • It will generate more interest in local acts and push some multinational acts out.
  • Clubs can liaison with each other! So you could play a Football Club game or a Rotary Club Event.
  • Don’t have money for say a PA? Clubs generate money and could share a PA or pay for a Sound Guy!
  • Clubs are all about people! There is plenty of help or advice to go round!
  • Clubs might generate enough interest in music again that we’ll get a cool music show on TV again!
  • Touring will be easier if there a lots of Clubs. Getting in contact with other Clubs will give you more venue contacts.

If anyone has anything on the subject leave a comment. I’m always looking for new ideas and am all to happy to give you mine.

Cheers Heath

Trudy Newell

A folk, rock, pop infused bubble is how I would describe Blacktown’s (Sydney) Trudy Newell. Trudy is an embassador for mental health and I think knows the vibe of music right know.

The featured song “Don’t Push Me” has a beautiful guitar intro. The backing vocals give it a subtle lift, it suits the song as if saying change doesn’t have to be difficult. The lyrics seem to be relationship driven. Seems like the love & hate kind (aren’t they all!) something almost everyone can relate too.

Follow all the links to Trudy’s pages and follow a real original artist!

Trudy

What got you into music?

I was always lonely as a kid.. Geeky, dorky but really smart… Nothing going for me? But I could sing amazingly,! (considering my mouth didn’t close) my front top tooth was so bucked but still I managed to learn. I mimicked the songs and dubbed them onto an old tape (sticky tape…vintage music was so much more crafty!) until the tape tangled from overuse. So I’d say I just grew up in a blues-inducing lifestyle. I require a certain amount of chaos to function!

*

Album first bought?
Well it was bought for me.. Roxette and a new HIFI dual tape record player, that’s how you impress a 14yo girl.. Never will forget that present.. Built in mic! Sweet.
 *
Artistic influence?
Well I have to disobey you here Heath! Lyrically- would have to say McCartney/Lennon and Billy Joel. Vocally- a wide swath of talent and genre/styles. I learned by imitating the great standards and 60s-80s MOR/pop. Call it Whitney Houston and Peggy Lee, that’s a nice start!
 *
Live scene at the moment?
What am I doing? Mostly longing! 😉Some promising opportunities around but right now my focus is on refining works, collaborating (for the first time in so long!) and recording that long overdue album.
 *
How would you make the music industry better?
I’ve got a Facebook page called Creative Collective https://www.facebook.com/CreativeCollective/?fref=ts  were we can help each other all across the globe. I’m trying to get a small Blacktown festival on once a year where we can get our Creative Collective Brand seen and hopefully establish the brand as “Music Clubs” across Australia. I think that would make it better lol!

Gullies

Gullies are a great folk band from Melbourne. I come across them on Unearthed and was surprised by the music and the lyrics.

The songs come together and make sense, the music means the words and the words mean the music. Groundhog was my favourite song. The chorus comes together with the words “No-body wants, no-body wants” It reminded me of when I bought The Beatles best of album and just repeated that song “Let it Be”.

All the songs are great and I recommend buying the album the link is http://gullies.bandcamp.com/album/clouded

Gullies

What album did you first buy?

CD; Ben Harper – “Live from Mars”. I Think Tape; The Chipmunks.. Record; Junior Kimbrough

What artist has been you biggest influence and why?

Neil Young. His music was drilled into us from a young age so subconsciously his influence was always going to sneak in there.

What are you doing on the live scene at the moment?

Just kicking off. We wrote the album before we had put a band together, so now that we have a band we are starting to gig. But that is on hold for now as Jorge is travelling for a few months.

http://gullies.bandcamp.com/album/clouded

What are your plans for the future musically?

I have built a recording studio at my house, so just more recording I guess. We have really fell in love with the process of making songs and albums together, but a gig here and there never hurt.

What do you enjoy most about music?

The release. Its a great mode of expression.

How would you make the music scene better?

I would love for it not to be so competitive. More musicians need to support other musicians.
